  10. Q:      When using reverbs I get a lot of cracks in the voice. What is
  11.         the problem?
  12. A:      Your computer doesn't enough power to handle the reverb effect.
  13.         Lower the sampling rate or use mono mode (if you were using
  14.         stereo mode). Also you can try to simplify the reverbs by
  15.         reducing the number of echos.

  18. Q:      Are digital effects available on GUS?
  19. A:      No. This is because GUS does all the sound mixing with its
  20.         processor and DMP cannot post process the digital sound data
  21.         to produce effects.

  24. Q:      I'm having troubles playing modules with GUS. Sometimes DMP
  25.         just doesn't play anything.
  26. A:      Try -gt switch to force the non-GUS timer mode.
  27.         This will also help in Windows.

  29. Q:      Are you going to add support for MED, or other formats popular
  30.         on Amiga?
  31. A:      No. I will only add support for formats that can be
  32.         edited/created on PC computers.

  35. Q:      When I try to use a DAC with DMP, the machine hangs. What is
  36.         wrong?
  37. A:      You are probably using some memory manager like EMM386 or QEMM.
  38.         These programs cause great overhead for DAC/PC speaker play
  39.         routine and if the overhead is too big, the machine will hang.

  42. Q:      I can't get DMP to play through my PC speaker (or LPT DAC system)
  43.         with higher frequencies than 10kHz.
  44. A:      You have probably installed some 386 memory manager like EMM386
  45.         or QEMM386. These programs induce great overhead for DAC playing
  46.         and should not be used with DMP when playing through these devices.

  49. Q:      DMP doesn't seem to work under OS/2?
  50. A:      True, OS/2 doesn't support the DMA mode DMP uses to transfer data.

  53. Q:      I have Internet mail access. How can I get new DMP most easily?
  54. A:      By joining the DMP mailing list. Just send a message to
  55.         listserv@oliver.sun.ac.za with following message body

  57.           subscribe DMP-LIST Your Name

  59.         After joining, you will receive new DMP releases right into
  60.         your own mailbox. You also need uudecode utility to extract
  61.         DMP.

  63. Q:      I can't handle the size of the mail from DMP-LIST. Is there any
  64.         other way to get information on DMP updates?
  65. A:      You can also join another DMP list, called DMP-talk. This list
  66.         is intended for discussion about DMP and it is also used for
  67.         notifying about new DMP releases.

  70. Q:    I'm having troubles with my PAS16. The music is just plain
  71.     static, what's going wrong?
  72. A:    Problem here is that, for some odd reason, DMP transfers one
  73.     single byte before actual music transfer starts, leading to
  74.     noise, because the bytes are reversed in 16-bit data. This only
  75.     happens with 8-bit DMA, so you should try 16-bit DMA channels
  76.     5,6 or 7.

  78. Q:    EMS is great bu when are you going to add XMS support?
  79. A:    To DMP, never! Accessing XMS from a real mode program is way too
  80.         slow to use in an application like DMP. Use DMP/32, player using
  81.         Watcom C/C++, which runs in 386 protected mode and can access
  82.         all the memory you have (like PMP).
